Rolling with the Wolves: Behind the Scenes with Warrington’s Finest
Matrix Group has announced its latest Community Support Fund sponsorship: father and son duo, Paul Harding and Luke Winstanley-Harding of Warrington Wolves Wheelchair Rugby. Paul and Luke were nominated by friend and Matrix cable jointer Rob Whitfield who applied for sponsorship through the Fund, knowing how the financial support would enable the players to cover travel costs and expenses for away matches.
Matrix Group set up its Community Support Fund in 2022 as a dedicated resource for community engagement. Employees are encouraged to use it to fund grassroots organisations, small groups, and charities, ensuring contributions directly support causes they care about and positively impact their local communities.
Paul said: “Player sponsorship is so beneficial. It enables us to focus on what we do best—playing hard and setting an example in the League. Wheelchair Rugby isn’t just about competition; it’s a family that supports each other. And playing alongside my son is an incredible experience that only strengthens our bond.”
Luke, who has been playing for four years, introduced Paul to the sport. As members of the Warrington Wolves’ development squad, they’ve played in competitions like the Wheelchair Rugby Fours and the Challenge Trophy. The team has several friendly matches scheduled ahead of the official season start in June.
Rob Sparkes, Matrix Group CEO, added: “Supporting groups like Wheelchair Rugby is a source of pride for us. This sponsorship mirrors the strong community and mutual support that are central to our values at Matrix Group. The fund is there to help empower individuals within an inclusive environment.”
Originally dubbed ‘Murderball’ when created in 1977, Wheelchair Rugby offers quadriplegic athletes the chance to play diverse roles within the sport. Its inclusive nature also welcomes mixed gender teams and encourages participation from both disabled and non-disabled players.
